APDEX is an acronym for the “Application Performance Index,” a new, open standard developed by an alliance of companies that defines a standardized method to report, benchmark, and track Internet and intranet site performance. According to NetForecast:

“Enterprises are swimming in IT performance numbers, but have no insight into how well their applications perform from a business point of view. APDEX is a numerical measure of user satisfaction with the performance of enterprise applications. It converts many measurements into one number on a uniform scale of 0-to-1 (0 = no users satisfied, 1 = all users satisfied). This metric can be applied to any source of end-user performance measurements.”

My challenge was two-fold:

  • To visually convey, in one simple graphic, the core value behind the APDEX metric
  • To accomplish this mission in less than three weeks, in time for NetForecast to appear at a major trade show

NetForecast was very pleased with the resulting logo that I created:

“Jon grasped the essence of the problem and quickly created a logo that incorporated the notion of time and an index. The logo conveys our primary values in an easy-to-understand form. Jon was very responsive, thorough, and great to work with.”

– Peter Sevcik, President & Founder

Based on its satisfaction with the new APDEX logo, NetForecast commissioned me to create an explanatory diagram that conveys the essential value that its technology provides, in a unified and easy-to-understand fashion:
