Overview

Starting in 1987, I worked in numerous capacities in publication design and development. My trademarks are strong page layout, well-organized content, and meticulous attention to detail. My content design approach has also been successfully implemented into acclaimed advocacy and business applications.

Some of my key publication design experience and accomplishments include:

  • 3-GOMI-magazinesGALT OCEAN MILE INSIDER Magazine (Ft. Lauderdale, FL): Publisher, Editor, Designer, 1998-2000.
I conceived of, designed, edited and published this innovative local interest magazine, and developed its unique “triple-cross-referenced merchant directory and discount system”.  The publication was a big hit with readers, advertisers and the community leaders, but my revenue and franchising potential projections were way off, and I had to shut it down.
See a detailed description of the Galt Ocean Mile INSIDER, and what made it so unique, here.
  • ARIZONA LIVING Magazine (Phoenix, AZ): part-time Production Artist, 1988-89.
At the time, this was the largest-selling monthly general interest magazine in Phoenix.  My primary responsibilities were designing ads, doing paste-up and other art support functions.  Reported to Art Director.  I worked here in addition to my full-time job at the Ritz Carlton – Phoenix (info).
  • ValleyFaire-after1VALLEY FAIRE Magazine (Phoenix, AZ): Art Director & Creative Consultant, 1987-88.
A general interest, freely-distributed monthly magazine. After the previous AD was fired, I was hired to assemble the pieces for the current issue, and redesign the publication to have a more contemporary look and feel. See the before-and-after here. I also had the opportunity to begin writing feature articles, including music concert reviews (example).
