Public figures who’ve expressed a desire to live under socialism

For years, notable public figures have championed socialism, and even claimed they want to live under it. Examples include:

“The idea of a kindergarten-type society where we share things is my ideal society… as opposed to this world where we’re hunting and killing and destroying for our own personal hoarding, our own personal greed.”

“Millionaire actor Mark Ruffalo wants to ‘Hulk smash’ capitalism… ‘It’s time for an economic revolution. Capitalism today is failing us, killing us, and robbing from our children’s future,’ Ruffalo tweeted on Sunday…”

“Capitalism is slavery by another name. It’s a system that’s not working, so we need a new system.”

“Our legal system is structured to favor private property,” he said, insisting that “people would like to have the city government be able to determine which building goes where, how high it will be, who gets to live in it, what the rent will be.”  For good measure, he added: “If I had my druthers, the city government would determine every single plot of land, how development would proceed. And there would be very stringent requirements around income levels and rents. That’s a world I’d love to see.”

“Democratic socialism, to me, is about democratic control of every single facet of our life…. [T]o me, we’ll have achieved democratic socialism not when there is no conflict in the world, but when our societies are not governed based on power, but are governed based on the mutual understanding that everybody deserves a decent and quality life.” This socialist vision of society seeks to overturn the existing order and should not be confused with the mainstream progressive left, Okere explained.

A leftist Twitch star has come under fire after it was revealed he purchased a $2.7m home in Los Angeles, where he lives.

Hasan Piker [Ed.: a Turkish immigrant] is one of the most popular left-wing commentators on any platform, with 1.5 million followers on Twitch. The streamer uses his platform to discuss politics from a leftist perspective and also plays video games while interacting with his audience.

After it was revealed that he had purchased the five-bedroom, 3,800 square foot home in West Hollywood, critics lashed out at Mr Piker, claiming he was being a hypocrite as he is a proponent of socialism.

“We believe that we should eradicate private property and go to a model of collective ownership,” said Boris Santos…

“The latest iteration of the Democratic Socialists of America’s L.A. chapter began in 2010… in 2015, it had 270 members; by 2017, that number shot to 800 and now there are 5,500 members.”

And what has been the result, of the fact that they (and their comrades in our “news,” “educational” and political systems) are almost invariably never substantively challenged re socialism, on their social media and beyond?

The answer is: survey results that would have been unfathomable, 20 years ago:

“Socialism isn’t a dirty word, as far as young Americans are concerned, according to a new survey.  Half (49.6 percent) of Millennials and Generation Z said they would prefer living in a socialist country, compared to 37.2 percent of all U.S. adults who feel the same way.”

  • 39% of Millennials and Gen-Zers (22%, 17%) think all private property should be abolished.
  • 61% of Americans aged between 18 and 24, and 64% of Democrats, view socialism favorably. From 2010-2018, an average of 17% of Republicans shared this view.
  • Between 2018-2019, the number of American Millennials who “approve of communism” jumped from 28% to 36% – a 29% increase, in just one year.

The existing tools, approaches and strategies being employed to fight this trend are not just failing, they are being annihilated.
