Manufacturing Jobs under Obama vs Trump
Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, the DNC and their allies in the news media keep claiming that Barack Obama handed Donald Trump a booming manufacturing economy, but that Trump’s policies destroyed manufacturing jobs. Examples:
- On September 10, 2024, Kamala Harris said: “Donald Trump said he was going to create manufacturing jobs. He lost manufacturing jobs.”
- On September 29, 2020, Joe Biden said: “[Trump] comes in on a booming economy. He blew it. He blew it. What he did, even before COVID, manufacturing went in the hole. Manufacturing went in the hole.”
The reality, however, is the opposite:
Context:
- Barack Obama inherited the Great Recession, which ended in June 2009, five months into his presidency.
- Over the remaining 91 months of Obama’s presidency, 200,000 manufacturing jobs were lost
- Under Trump, 360,000 manufacturing jobs were gained, until March 2020, when COVID struck, which would have severely affected the US economy, at least for some period of time, no matter who was president at the time.

Black unemployment under Trump
Since 2020, Biden, Harris, the DNC and their allies in the news media continually say that the only people who benefited from Trump’s economic policy were the ultra-rich, at the expense of the poor and minorities. It is a lie.
