Client: SparkPubMedia
Category: Publishing firm
SparkPubMedia describes itself as “a full-service publishing company, bridging the gap between traditional publishing and self-publishing,” owned by Lisa DeSpain.
I first discovered SparkPubMedia while doing research into e-book publishing and support services, in preparation for completing my first book, about the power of the right first dog to completely transform a person’s life: “Saved By Shayna: Life Lessons From A Miracle Dog.” What distinguished Lisa’s firm from all the others I explored was the comprehensive professionalism of her approach, the very helpful videos and articles she posted to help new authors, and the ease of navigating her site. The only major gap I saw was the logo (banner) she was employing was not up to par with the rest of the site:
Lisa agreed with this assessment, and I offered to consult on and design a new logo for her.
.
The result of my work
After several design approaches and dozens of variants on the above theme, we arrived at one that really accomplished what I said she needed: a logo that not only reflects the quality approach of the rest of her media and site, but one that practically jumps off the page from the moment a new visitor arrives:
Lisa agrees that my design met this objective:
“Jon is a consummate professional. His very first step in the process was to get a really good feel for what my company does. He asked all sorts of questions about the company mission, its goals, my ideal client, and all the way down to my favorite colors and fonts. He asked detailed questions about my personal vision for the banner, things like what would I want it to convey, do I like simple, modern design (yes) vs. a more traditional look (not so much). One very cool thing about Jon is that he gave me a great design right away, got my feedback, and then kept tweaking it until we were both satisfied. I’d highly recommend Jon’s services – you can expect attention to detail, timely delivery of materials, and a keen artistic eye. In working with Jon, I feel as if he treated me like a valued client, and even more – he treated me like a friend.”

Lisa went on to convert my book to an e-book that is now available on Amazon, and soon, on ibooks, barnesnoble.com and other major distributors.
